How to Clean/Mop your Wood Floors:

Follow These Steps to get the best results on your Wood Floors:


Clean the floor. First make sure your floor is cleared of anything that doesn't belong there. Make sure furniture that will need to be pulled out - that you have cleaned underneath them. If you do a thorough job prior to starting it will make the job go faster and more smoothly.


Dry-mop or vacuum floor. This gets rid of all surface dirt and debris. I prefer a microfiber broom/mop. I do my sweeping with one and my second one I do the mopping. I find that with dry mopping, the heads can be changed about once a week for optimal results. For mopping, I always throw it directly in the wash so that the pad doesn't get dry and hard.
If you don't sweep before mopping, you will not be satisfied with the results of your mop job!


Mop floor, going with the grain. Make sure that you do not go against the grain - this WILL cause streaks. If you want the best results, you will move your mop with the grain on your wood floors. It just makes the look so much brighter and cleaner.


NOTICE:
** If your floors are polyurethane, dampen a mop with water and a few drops of dish washing liquid.** Polyurethane floors don't require special floor cleaners.



Using the microfiber mop system (O'cedar is my favorite), I have never had to go back over my floors and buff them. Most grocery store, box stores, home improvement stores carry the O'Cedar brand. I have even seen them at Sams Club and at Costco - if you have either one of those in your neighborhood.


I have found this to be the tried and true method for me - it works and is pretty flawless. The hardest part is getting the floor picked up completely so that the mopping part can go fast and smoothly.
