Into The Woods

Into The Woods
In a retelling of several classic fairytales, a witch, who had previously cursed a baker’s parents, promises to undo the spell, allowing the childless couple to have a baby—but there’s a catch. The couple must first bring her four items that she requests before the night of the blue moon. As the Baker and his wife venture out to find the items needed to break the curse, they encounter several characters such as Jack (aka Jack and the Beanstalk), Cinderella and Prince Charming, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf as well as Rapunzel. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Into the Woods”.

· Near the beginning of the movie, Cinderella’s stepmother tosses and pail of lentils into the fireplace and tells Cinderella if she picks them all up, she can go to the ball. With the help of birds, Cinderella is able to fill the pail with the lentils. A close-up view of the pail, when she’s finished, shows it’s almost full, within an inch or so of the rim. The pail wobbles when she places it down and when Cinderella presents it to her stepmother, the pail isn’t half full.

· The Baker is talking to Jack who’s dropped the five giant gold coins on the ground. The Baker has one coin in his right hand and is yelling “Wait” as he picks up the rest. The scene cuts to a wider view when he starts to run after Jack and the Baker is only holding the one coin which he puts in the bag he’s carrying.

· The Baker’s Wife grabs Rapunzel’s hair when she lowers it from the tower and is able to cut a portion off that’s several feet long. As she’s originally carrying the hair (and even when she meets the Prince in the forest), the Baker’s Wife has to coil the hair around her neck to keep it from dragging the ground. She meet’s up with her husband, and the hair is shorter—she doesn’t have it coiled around her neck to carry it.

· Rapunzel’s hair is shown hanging outside the tower after the incident with the Baker’s Wife (and while the Prince is visiting her). Her hair hangs about half way down the tower. A few moments later, as the prince is leaving, he climbs down her hair which is now longer. The overhead view shows he climbs almost to the ground before letting go.

“Into the Woods” (2014) stars Anna Kendrick, Daniel Huttlestone, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Christine Baranski, Tracey Ullman, Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Mackenzie Mauzy, Billy Magnussen, Chris Pine, and Simon Russell Beale. It runs 125 minutes and is rated PG for thematic elements, fantasy action and peril, and some suggestive material.
