Basic Instinct

Basic Instinct
The police begin their investigation into the brutal ice pick slaying of music producer, Johnny Boz. Detective Nick Curran focuses on suspect Catherine Tramell, Boz’s lover, who happens to be an author who’s book describes a murder victim killed in the same manner. As Nick delves deeper into Catherine’s world, he soon finds himself playing a sordid game that he might not be able to win. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “Basic Instinct”.

· Catherine is being interrogated at the police station. She’s smoking a cigarette while they’re questioning her. The police ask her about the white silk scarf and the cigarette Catherine has been holding is gone. She’s holding another cigarette when she’s saying, “I’d have to be pretty stupid…”. Also during the scene, Nick is wearing a suit jacket during the interrogation but it’s often when Catherine makes the cocaine reference.

· Catherine and Nick are in bed. In a left side view of Nick, there are noticeable red marks on his back moments before she is shown scratching him with her fingernails. Also, the scratches on his back change from the time Nick is shown walking out of the bathroom (they’re lighter) to when he wakes up in bed the next morning (the scratches are bloodier).

· Nick and Gus are at Mac’s Diner. Gus is still arguing with Nick when he walks to the counter for the Tabasco bottle. Gus puts some on his food, places the green top on the bottle and slams it on the table. The green top falls off the bottle. A few moments later, when Gus mentions the “track on Lieutenant…”, there’s a right-side view of Nick and the green top is back on the Tabasco bottle.

“Basic Instinct” (1992) stars Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, George Dzundza, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Denis Arndt, Leilani Sarelle, Bill Cable, Dorothy Malone, and Wayne Knight. It runs 127 minutes and is rated R for strong violence and sensuality, and for drug use and language.
